This impressive project in Zwickau involved the installation of Terra-Grid E35 on a grass runway with a total area of 25,000 m². A skilled team carried out the work, and the video shows how a runway can be reinforced quickly and efficiently – even for heavy aircraft operations.
Objective
To stabilize a grass-based runway so it can support maximum take-off weight (MTOW), while remaining permeable and preserving vegetation.
Execution & Technique
The panels were laid in precisely leveled corridors for optimal performance. Installation was carried out mechanized and systematically by an experienced crew, ensuring both uniformity and rapid progress. Surface and subsoil were prepared according to local conditions and weather.

Yes. Terra-Grid E® 35 is UV- and frost-resistant, break-proof, and designed to withstand seasonal variations. Integrated expansion joints absorb temperature changes.
No. Terra-Grid E® 35 is permeable and does not seal the surface. Vegetation is preserved, and water can infiltrate naturally.
Yes. MTOW can be fully utilized on the reinforced runway section (up to 160 t/m²). We dimension the solution according to your requirements.
Yes. Big/Small Markers provide clear ICAO-compliant markings (centerline, numbers, edges, etc.) in white, yellow, or red.
Installation is fast and modular: cut – lay – click – compact. We are happy to advise you on crew size and equipment for your setup.
Yes. Terra-Grid E® 35 is made from recycled PE, is 100% recyclable, and produced using renewable energy (partly self-generated). The solution also preserves drainage and vegetation.
Terra-Grid E® 35 carries the RAL-Gütezeichen certification.
RAL-GZ 806 is a German quality standard issued by RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung, covering quality assurance of ground reinforcement systems made from recycled plastics.
Quality requirements include:
Material requirements: At least 25% of the product must consist of recycled plastic.
Environmental requirements: Products must not release ecotoxic substances into soil or water.
Physical tests: Including impact resistance, UV exposure simulation, hardness tests, and traffic load testing.
Durability: Resistance to various media and weather conditions.
